Technical information Industrial Viscosity

Viscosity

Viscosity is the resistance that fluid offers flow due to its internal molecular forces. Viscosity of the lubricant determines its ability to form a protective film between moving parts. It hydrodynamic seal keeps parts separated, prevent wear of the surface. In order to ensure proper lubrication of the compressor, oil viscosity should be kept within the required temperature limitation components vary from cold to hot. Oils with high viscosity thicker and higher resistance to flow. If viscosity of the oil is too high for the application, the oil will not have sufficient fluidity to be in a state of flow between the bearing and the log surfaces.

Hence, partial hydrodynamic print forms, increase of wear-resistance, heat and energy consumption. If viscosity of the oil is too low, it will not have sufficient mass to keep the moving parts are separated. It also increases resistance to wear, heat and energy consumption. Low body lubricants can also contribute to excessive breakthrough steam around the pistons, because the oil is also used as a sealing between low and high pressure areas in the compressor. Breakthrough reduces the volume and efficiency of the compressor.
