Nonlubricant-Return Freon Evaporators

The design of some freon evaporators prevent oil from being involved in the refrigerant vapor, so it can be performed in die suction line and returns to the compressor. Flooded liquid coolers of air and cooling evaporators, which are operated semiflooded lack of sufficient refrigerant speed and turbulence capture oil and carry it into the suction line. The provisions of these systems to drain the oil from die evaporator to take of liquid refrigerant and oil mixture. Flooded liquid coolers are usually equipped with oil divorce that permits the measured quantity die oil-rich fluid and blood oozing out of the chiller barrel.

The mixture is delivered to the suction line or oil receiver through the guidance of the metering valve flow control. In semiflooded evaporator applications, oil return is usually achieved by calibration expansion valve, so that it works with low superheat. This strategy slightly overfeeds evaporator, so that a small amount of oil-rich liquid refrigerant continuously transferred into the suction line. This arrangement will usually keep the oil concentration in die evaporator within reasonable limits.
