Refrigerant

The type of refrigerant in the system, has a significant impact on compressor capacity. Displacement (cfm) reciprocating, rotary, scroll to, or screw compressor is constant, constant RPM Refrigerant density (in pounds per cubic foot), however, determines the performance of the compressor. The more dense the refrigerant, the more power the compressor produces, or more pounds of refrigerant circulating in a minute. More pounds distributed in the moment means that more work must be done to more horsepower is required to turn the compressor. For this reason, refrigerant type cannot be changed in the field, without first considering the ability to change it will produce in the system, as well as capacity requirements to drive a compressor. Replacement with more dense refrigerant can easily overload of the compressor motor, causing electrical overload tripouts and possibly damage the engine...
