Summary split and unitary systems
R-22 is used mainly in split and unitary air conditioning equipment. The number used in this Appendix are sometimes underestimated, since in manufacturing/exporting country the initial charge, which is considered the " consumption " at that time considered as such in the importing country, where the equipment will be installed and serviced.
The new systems of alternatives are readily available. Most often R-22 is replaced by R-410A, R-407C. Large volumes of R-22 systems still was installed in some markets due to lower investment costs and are less informed customers. Because these devices are age, they can be expected to play a significant role in the consumption of HCFCs, after a freeze in consumption of HCFCs (usually this is equivalent to "import" in most Article 5 countries) in 2013 enters into force. One of the priorities should be to stop the introduction of the new R-22 equipment. The earlier legislative ban on the import, marketing and installation of the new systems R-22 is established, the easier the transition will be. Transition costs would be lower as added to the initial cost is much lower than the cost of upgrading the system.
