Technical information Air-Conditioning Filter Installation

Filter Installation

Air filters are usually installed in the outdoor air intake ducts of air conditioning systems and often in the recirculating duct.

Air filters logically mounted in front heating or cooling coil and other equipment for the air-conditioning system to prevent dust. The filters must be installed so that the surface at a right angle to the air wherever possible (see Fig. 3-13). In most cases, the unsuccessful air filter installation-can be traced to faulty installation, improper maintenance, or both.

The American Society of Heating and Ventilation Engineers gives the most important requirements for a satisfactory and efficient operation of the air filter setup as follows:

The filter must be of sufficient size to air are expected to handle. Overload from 10 to 15 percent is considered as the maximum acceptable. When the volume of air with regard to growth, large filter must be installed.
The filter must be adapted to operation conditions, such as air purity is required, the amount of dust in the incoming air, the type of debt, the permissible differential pressure, temperature, operation and maintenance.
Filter type, which should be the most economical for specific applications.

The first cost of the installation should be balanced, taking into account depreciation, as well as the costs and ease of maintenance.

The following recommendations apply filters and washers fitted with Central ventilation systems:

The duct connections from the filter should change their size or shape gradually, to ensure a uniform distribution of air across the filter area.
Enough space should be provided in front, as well as for the filter to make it available for inspection and maintenance. A distance of 2 feet, can be considered as a minimum.
Access doors convenient size should be provided in the sheet metal, cables leading to and filters.
All the doors on the clean air side should be lined with felt to prevent the penetration of dirty air. All joints and seams of sheet metal air ducts on the clean air side should be airtight.
Light bulbs must be installed in the chamber, front and rear air filter.

Air washers must be installed between the leaves and the coils to protect them from the cold in winter.
Filters, installed near air intakes should be protected from the weather by suitable blinds, in front of which a large mesh, wire screen should be provided.
Filters must have permanent indicators to give a warning when the resistance of the filter reaches too high a value.
