Cooling capacity

Refrigerating machines are calculated in tonnes of refrigeration. This rating shows the size and the ability to produce cooling energy in this period. One ton of cooling has energy equal to produce 1 ton of ice in 24 hours. Since it takes 288,000 BTU heat to melt 1 ton of ice, 1-ton machine will absorb 288,000 BTU in a 24 hour period.
