Fluorinated refrigerants

Fluorinated refrigerants always carry the symbol "R"followed by a number, for example. R22, R134a, R404A and R407C. Sometimes they met their trademarks. In fluorinated refrigerants all have the following features:
  • A pair of odor-free and non-irritant.
  • Widely nontoxic. In the presence of fire pair may secrete acid and fluoride phosgene, which is very poisonous.
  • Non-corrosive.
  • Not combustible and not explosive.
The most common fluorinated refrigerants:

R134a, which is a substance of ethane group with the formula CH2FCF3 a normal boiling point-26.1 C. Its thermodynamic properties make it suitable as a refrigerant for medium temperature applications, such as domestic refrigerators.

R22, which is a substance of methane group with the formula CHF2CI and has a boiling point of-40.8 C. Its thermodynamic properties make it suitable as a refrigerant for wide range of applications in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning. R22 is being phased out as a refrigerant in many countries due to its ozone-depleting potential.

R404A/R507A (also known as 507), which is a mixture of R125 (CHF2CF3) and R143a (CH3CF3) with boiling temperature (-46.7 C), which is somewhat lower than for R22.

Its thermodynamic properties makes it suitable as a refrigerant for low and medium temperatures in commercial refrigeration (e.g. supermarkets).

R407C, which is a mixture of R32 (CH2F2), R125 (CHF2CF3) and R134a (CH2FCF3) with boiling temperature (-43.6 C), which is somewhat lower than for R22. Its thermodynamic properties make it suitable retrofit refrigerant for medium-and high-temperature applications in the domestic and industrial air conditioners.

R410A, which is a mixture of R32 (CH2F2) and R125 (CHF2CF3) with boiling temperature (-51.4 C), which is lower than for R22. Its thermodynamic properties make it suitable retrofit refrigerant for medium-and high-temperature applications in the domestic and industrial air conditioners.

In addition to these fluorinated refrigerants have a long range of other, not seen very often today: R23, R123, R124 and R218. In addition to R22, systems with fluorinated hydrocarbons in General grease polyol ester oil (POE). These types of oil are much more sensitive to react chemically with water, the so-called "hydrolysis" reaction. For this reason, systems today are kept extremely dry filter driers...
