Technical information Refrigeration To Compress Refrigerant Vapor

Refrigerant Vapor Compression

Refrigerant compressor is designed to work on the refrigerant is in vapor state. The liquid refrigerant may cause damage to the compressor. Thus, cooling systems are designed to minimize the liquid refrigerant, which gets into the zone of compression(s) of the compressor. Actually, a small amount of liquid can sometimes find its way. Liquid slugging occurs when the amount of fluid passing through the compressor grow large enough to restrict internal movement of the compressor. Some designs tolerate liquid is better than the other. Piston compressor is the least tolerant; centrifugal is the most tolerant. They all, however, face some challenges when it becomes excessive fluid in the compression area(s) of the machine.

Excess fluid in compressors:

  1. high power consumption
  2. engine overheating
  3. compressor overheating
  4. oil breakdown
  5. improper lubrication of the compressor
  6. the noise at work
  7. vibration
  8. compressor deformity and damage due to the failure of
  9. inadequate capacity
