Compressor design

Piston compressors are driven by electric motors. Hermetic compressors, welded casing, which prevents the service of the compressor in the field. These "welded sealants" are most popular for reciprocating compressors 10 tons or less. Their use is growing in the range of 10-20 tons.

"Fit" or "bolt sealants" can be dismantled for field service. While sealed welded structure to organize the engine and compressor shaft vertically, serviced sealants are shaft oriented horizontally.

Open piston compressor has one end of the shaft open atmosphere. From the crankshaft extends beyond Carter, it can be attached to different power sources. Mechanical seal is used at the point where the shaft passes through the compressor casing to prevent leakage of refrigerant. As with serviceable hermetic reciprocating compressors, organize open the model of the compressor and engine shafts horizontal.

Open reciprocating compressors can be controlled internal combustion engines. Transportation refrigeration systems for tractor trailers, rail and container land/sea transportation of perishable goods tend to drive open compressor with a small diesel engine.

Even if you open the reciprocating compressors can be controlled internal combustion engines or steam turbines, the vast majority of comfort systems using open motors compressors. The electric motor can be arranged direct drive via a flexible coupling, as shown here. In these applications, the compressor will run at the speed of the engine. Therefore, a motor that the compressor is running at full speed should be selected.
