Technical information Air-Conditioning Interconnection of Suction Lines

The Relationship Suction Line

When designing the suction line, the following important considerations should be observed:
  • The line shall have sufficient capacity to prevent any significant pressure drop at full load.
  • In multiple-element installations, all suction line should be reduced to a common collector to the compressor.
  • The difference in pressure between each compressor and the main suction line must be the same to ensure proportional amount of refrigerant for each compressor, as well as the timely return of oil for each compressor.
  • Equal pipe lengths, sizes, and spacing must be provided.
  • All collectors must be on the same level.
  • Inlet and outlet pipes should be staggered.
  • Never connect the branch to cross or tee.
  • In the common collector must have a size equal to the sum of the squares of the individual suction.
  • Suction pipe must be designed to prevent draining the compressor during shutdown cooling system.
