Pipe Fittings

Pipes, fittings, insulation for a number of reasons. The methods of insulating three different fittings, are shown in Fig. 4.4. In most cases it is recommended to clean all of the joints and waterproof them with cement. A mixture of raw hot paraffin wax and granulated cork can be used for filling of cracks around the fittings.

Figure 4.5 shows a piece of rock-cork insulation. It is molded of a mixture of mineral wool and waterproof binder. Stone wool is made of limestone, which was melted about 3000 degrees Fahrenheit [1,649 degrees C]. Then blown in the fibers of high-pressure steam. Asphaltum is a binder used to keep it in moldable form. This isolation has approximately the same insulation qualities, like a cork. It can be made waterproof, when asphalted. Some more modern materials have been designed to give the same or better insulation qualities. Vascocel tube can be used in pipe insulation. Pipe rolls to give good insulation and prevents dripping, heat, or heat gain.

Fig. 4.6 shows the socket insulated with preshrunk wool felt.

This built-up pipe thickness of the covering made of two layers of hair felt. The inner part is covered with plastic cement to the insulating material is used. After application of waterproof tape and plastic cement must be added to protect against the penetration of moisture. This type of insulation is used, first of all, on the pipes located within the building. If the pipe is on the outside, another type of insulation should be used.
