Technical information Industrial Motor Starting Relays

Engine Start Relay

Some of the engine management for hermetic systems differ from those used on the external drives. Starting relay are outside of the hermetic compressor system. These relays are, as a rule, one of the following types:
  • Current (magnetic).
  • Potential (magnetic).
  • Thermal.
  • Solid state electronic.
Relay permissions for electricity to flow through the starting of the motor windings. This continues until the engine reaches approximately two-thirds of its rated speed. The relay is disabled ("open"), starting winding circuit.

The starting winding must be energized only for three or four seconds. If the current is flowing through it over a long period can lead to overheating the windings. Many current relay and/or thermal protection devices to protect the starting winding from damage.

For proper operation of the relay should be the correct size for the engine. When you replace the relay, new, should have the same electrical characteristics as the original. It is impossible to use an open electrical contacts inside a sealed system...
