Hunting
Hunting season applied to any type of mechanism, means that the mechanism is the first goes too far in one direction. It then returns too far in the other direction. Sometimes this is called " the stomach.
Hunting refrigeration, defines modulate refrigerant flow through management operations. There is always some hunting during system operation. If the valves hunting, they will alternately open too wide. This allows too much refrigerant flow into the evaporator. Then they close too far, not allowing enough refrigerant in the evaporator. This effect is suggested by dashed lines in Fig. 5-45.
The less hunting, the more effective the system will be. When the valve hunting too much, even the amount of refrigerant is not provided in the evaporator, maybe even liquid refrigerant to the proposed dashed lines in Fig. 5-45.

In some cases, this condition can be caused by a valve that is too large for the system.
Each thermostatic expansion valve and the evaporator combination should be adjusted. Superheat adjustments must be used to reduce surging and hunting to a minimum. However, you still should provide full evaporator use.
