Potential-Type Relay

This relay is used, as a rule, with large commercial and air-conditioning compressors (see Fig. 7-31). The engines can be capacitor-start capacitor-start type to 5 PS relay Contacts are normally closed. Relay coil wired to start winding. It senses the voltage change. Start winding voltage increase the engine speed. As voltage increases to a specific threshold, fittings pulls up, opening relay contacts and failures starting winding. After the switch, there is still sufficient, the induced voltage in the starting winding to save the relay coil is energized and beam from the contacts open. When the power is turned off the engine, the voltage drops to zero. The coil is de-energized and the beginning of the reset pin for the next launch.

Many of these relays are extremely sensitive positions. When you change the compressor relay, care should be taken to install a replacement in the same position as the original. Never select the replacement of relay exclusively horsepower or other aggregate rating. Select the correct relay of the parts of the guide provided by the manufacturer.

Visual inspection can distinguish two relay. Current relay has a heavy wire for the coil and potential relay has a thin wire coil.
