Motor Reversibility

Asynchronous motor is not always reverse while running. He can continue to work in the same direction, but at a reduced efficiency. Inertia-type of load is difficult to reverse. Most engines classified as reversible when run, will return, not inertialtype load. They may not reverse, if they are in a mode of idling or light, or lead inertial load.

One problem with reversing the engine while it is running is the damage caused to the transmission system, the connected load. In some cases, it may damage the cargo. One way to avoid this is to make sure that the right engine is connected to a load.

Reversing (standing still) capacitor-start motor can be done by reversing its start winding connection. This is usually the only time that the field technique will work on the motor. Available replacement of the engine cannot be rotated in the direction of the desired, so the technician will have to find the start winding terminals and cancel them, to have the engine start in the right direction.
