Technical information Refrigerants ORAL TOXICITY

ORAL TOXICITY

Fluorocarbons low oral toxicity, as judged by the single-dose or repeated dosing over a long period. However, the direct contact of liquid fluorocarbons with lung tissue can result in chemical pneumonitis, pulmonary edema, and bleeding. Fluorocarbons 11 and 113, like many petroleum distillates, fats and solvents can produce this effect. If products containing these fluorocarbons were accidentally or intentionally inside, vomiting induction would be contraindicated.

CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (CNS)EFFECTS

Inhalation of concentrated fluorocarbon vapors may cause CNS effects comparable to the effects of General anesthesia. The first symptom is a sense of intoxication. This is accompanied by loss of coordination and unconsciousness. In heavy conditions, death may result. If these symptoms are felt exposed individual should immediately go or transfer to fresh air. Should someone seek medical care in a timely manner. Individuals exposed fluorocarbons should NOT be treated with adrenaline (epinephrine).

CARDIAC SENSITIZATION

Fluorocarbons may, in sufficient concentration of vapour, produce cardiac sensitization.

This sensitisation heart adrenaline caused by exposure to high concentrations of organic vapors. Under the strong influence, cardiac arrhythmias may occur as a result of sensitization heart body's own levels of adrenaline. This is especially important in the conditions of emotional or physical stress, fear, panic, and so on. Such violations heart rhythm can lead to ventricular fibrillation and death. Exposed individuals should immediately go or be removed to fresh air, where the risk of heart effects will decline rapidly. Immediate medical treatment and follow-up should be provided with the following accidental exposure. Worker negatively affects fluorocarbon vapors should NOT be treated with adrenaline (epinephrine) or similar stimulants heart, because they were to increase the risk of heart arrhythmias.

THERMAL DECOMPOSITION

Fluorocarbons decompose when exposed to direct influence of high temperatures. Flame and electric resistance heaters, for example, to decompose chemically fluorocarbon vapors. Products of this decay in the air include Противотум. halogen headlights and acids (hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, and Hydrobromic), and other irritating substances. Although much more toxic than the parent fluorocarbon, these decomposition products tend to irritate the nose, eyes and upper respiratory tract. This provides warning of their presence. Practical danger is relatively weak. It is difficult for a person to voluntarily remain in the presence of decay products in concentrations, where physiological damage.

When those irritating decomposition products known, the area should be evacuated and ventilation. The source of the problem should be fixed...
