Technical information Refrigerants Carbon Dioxide

Carbon Dioxide

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colorless gas at normal temperatures. He has a slight smell and taste of acid. Carbon dioxide is non-explosive and non-flammable. It has a boiling point 5 degrees F (-15 degrees C). Pressures of more than 300 psi is required to keep it from evaporating. Gas liquefaction capacitor temperature of 80 degrees f (26.6 degrees C) and a pressure of about 1,000 psi needed. Its critical temperature 87.8 degrees F (31 degrees C). It is harmless to breathe, except in very high concentrations. Lack of oxygen can lead to suffocation under certain conditions, carbon dioxide concentrations.

Carbon dioxide is used on Board ships and in industrial installations. It is not used in everyday life. The main advantage of the use of carbon dioxide for refrigerant that a small compressor can be used. The compressor is very low, as high pressure refrigerant. Carbon dioxide, however, very inefficient compared with other refrigerants.
