Lubricants
The right of choice lubricating oil for compressor has become more complex with the introduction of new refrigerants. Table 3.4 provides some indication of the suitability of traditional and new lubricants. Compressor manufacturers should be consulted in regard to the modification of oil for a particular compressor.
Those lubricants marked 'M' easy to absorb moisture and great care must be taken to prevent exposure to air when adding a new oil. Moisture in the air absorbed oil and will lead to contamination of both refrigerant and oil. With hermetic compressors this can lead to the windings of the motor failure.
